New acquisitions at the America Museum
We are delighted to share with you the arrival of three new photographs documenting the history of the America!
The first shows the aircraft on its launch ramp, with the engines carefully covered. This is a previously unseen photograph for our collection, one we had never had the opportunity to see before.
The other two photographs feature Richard Byrd, Georges Noville and Floyd Bennett during a training session on their lifeboat, designed to cope with any unforeseen events during the voyage.
We already had a similar image showing the men waving to the camera from their boat, but the last photo, taken on the quays of New York City, clearly reveals the inflatable dinghy used after the splashdown.
And those oars… do they look familiar?
We are fortunate to have one on display in our showcases, in a remarkable state of preservation!
